Cost of Psychotherapy Sessions
I offer a free initial consultation to new clients. Following that, our sessions will run for 50-55 minutes, and my fee is $300 per session. Please provide payment before or at the beginning of our session. The fee is payable by Venmo (@maxcounseling).
Sliding Scale / Reduced Fee Appointments
I offer a limited number of reduced fee client openings, based on demonstrated financial need. If you would like to work with me but cannot afford my full fee, please let me know - there is a good chance that we will be able to figure something out.
Insurance
Like many psychotherapists and medical professionals, I have chosen to not contract with health insurance plans. This is due to the bureaucratic challenges that come along with such contracts, not the least of which are limits to clients' confidentiality. That said, your insurance company (Regence, Premera, Aetna, First Choice, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and others) will likely reimburse a significant portion of the cost of psychotherapy sessions with me. I will be happy to provide you with invoices ("superbills") to submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. You are welcome to ask me any questions about this process.
How Does Out-of-Network Reimbursement Work?
The fee for our sessions will be due in full at the beginning of each session. Following that, please let me know when you would like an invoice for your insurance. You can decide how often you get an invoice. Most people find it easiest to request it once every month or two. Then you will submit your invoice to your insurance company for reimbursement. This process depends on your particular insurance provider, but usually you will either mail the invoice to them or upload it online.
Insurance providers vary greatly in terms of how much they reimburse for out-of-network therapy. If you would like to use your insurance for our work, please check on your coverage in advance. You are welcome to use these guidelines: How to Check Your Insurance Coverage.
Cancellation
Things come up, and occasionally you may need to cancel a scheduled appointment. In this case, please give me at least a 48-hour notice; otherwise you will be responsible for the fee for the missed appointment.
